Howells Bluff

Is there any information available regarding walking tracks to/on Howells Bluff? A small group of us are planning a trip to Lake Rowallan soon and one possible walk is Howells Bluff - the other Mt Rogoona. (I have some infor on that one). Many thanks in anticipation... Elaine

I have been out to Howells Bluff, not the greatest of off track walks, but some of the views / glimpses you get north to Clummner Bluff & The Tiers are nice.

As you get to the top of the first, main hill on the WOJ track (just past Trappers Hut) you will see a small, flat, grassy clearing down to your right, this also leads to Lake Adelaide I think? (not so familiar with the north of the state). Tho off track, the scrub is not too bad, & navigation easy, mostly just dry forest with a bit of scrambling on vegetated rock here & there. I think maybe 1.5 hours return from the main track from memory? There is a summit cairn, tho it hardly feels any higher than the rest of the surrounding bush as you are still in the tree-line.

I won't write any more than this as this falls into the off-track category & I shouldn't give advice, as per the forum rules.

Thank you for this information - I have been on the track to Lake Adelaide so know the area mentioned. I have heard others mention they have been to Howells Bluff and just wondered if there would be an old track. As the couple of others I will be with are experienced off track walkers, have maps and GPS we should be Ok.

Thought I would let you know that we found our way to Howells Bluff last weekend. Had a wonderful lunch spot overlooking a cloudy Lake Rowallan - Clumner Bluff was totally unseen!

Good to hear Elaine, hope the scrub treated you kindly.
Sounds like you had a better lunch than ours on the Arthur Plains on Monday -
sitting in drenching rain trying to eat cheese & biscuits is pretty miserable; payment for a good trip I guess!?

The scrub was not the problem - leeches are more fun! We were drenched - but not by rain - it was so humid. Chalice Lake on Sunday was clearer but just as hot. Then 3 a.m. Monday we coped the rain! But what else would we do? Cant live without this stuff!! Take care, Elaine
