No good! Which two were the culprits? Was it at home or in your tent?
I have slept every night (well some days as I work night shift) on CCF since the start of Feb, so figured sleeping in my tent would equal similar blissful sleep as I am so used to CCF now on tiles, timber floors etc. Not so, the first night out, I just sleep plain bad regardless of comfort and familiarity with sleep surface. I am restless and unsettled, it isn't until the second night when I relax into a trip I think- or get so tired I am not on hyperalert for axe murderers.
I usually sleep better on the first night of walk... I think I'm moderately used to being out bush in a tent, and I find it very relaxing. Like my home away from home.
For this particular tent-based "car-camping" (not bushwalking) trip, I bought two double-bed sized CCFs from BCF. The idea was that when sharing the tent with my wife, we could have one matress, instead of two (and a gap/seam in the middle). Would never have tried this bushwalking, as they take up way too much space, but I thought it was worth a shot for camping in our tent at the beach.
Thankfully, I also grabbed out bushwalking matresses on the way out the door... just in case. So we slept much better the following two nights.
I used to use CCF when I first started bushwalking. But I've gotten used to my creature comforts, I think. Plus I'm a few decades older. Gotta look after myself a bit.
But it was a worthwhile experience. We now know that the double-bed sized CCFs we bought are exactly the right size for our tent, so when it comes to buying a nice cushy self-inflating mattress for us to share on future car-camping trips, I will know what size to look out for.
