Re: GAME: Where Am I? (Continued)

Haha pleasure Brian! It is a nice lake, but would be very difficult to get to! We couldnt see it from our camp site though as one of the great peaks in this area was blocking the view. This was taken on our BIG day side trip over the classic peak of which I speak.
Nothing to see here.

Well - it would appear our little banter has hidden the fact that I had got it wrong.

I was thinking of the unnamed lake(s) below Right Angle Peak, but a quick sanity check on "the List" and it is Lake Surprise we are looking at.
And therefore I suspect you are on Secheron Peak looking across to Mt Giblin (or were you just starting down the descent from Secheron onto the ridge to Mt Lloyd Jones?)

Hehe well I thought you were right anyway..
Yup it's lake Surprise, we had gone out to Terminal peak and on the way back this was taken between Lloyd Jones and Secheron.
Nothing to see here.

That is one place I have on my list to visit. (though I might skip the Lloyd Jones / Terminal part)

Another one - name the lake I am looking at..

Definitely looking south, but the Walls are not visible.
The ridge on the left is part of a named peak.

I have looked across to Blue Peaks from a distance, but not been to them. Its not Turrana Bluff on the right, but its not that far away, further to the right again.
As far as I am aware, there are no named peaks actually in view.

Yes - this is looking down Lake Halkyard - with the edge of 40 Lakes Peak on the left.

Looks like Mt Hugel from the plateau to Little Hugel?

Wow that is flat, for somewhere in tassie at least. I'm gonna have a guess at Mt Dromedary. I really have no idea, I cant think of a landscape in Tassie that is this flat along the horizon

I presume the trick will be to guess which river valley you are looking over.
My initial reaction was up on the north side of the island over the Forth or Hellyer rivers?

Edit - Maybe the Milkshake Hills looking NW over the Arthur River?

It's not Valentines Peak is it? I cant remember a view like that from any point on it, but it does seem like you could be looking north towards Burnie/Wynyard, and it is quite flat up until Valentines

That was a very lucky guess.
I fiddled a bit with Google Satellite working across the Forth & Hellyer and then further out to the Arthur - but I was pretty convinced it had to be up in the NW.

Someone else can post the next one

When I first saw it I thought - "and this is not too difficult??"

So rock looks like WA/EA/Franklands quartzites. But nothing jumped to mind.
Checked my photos of Mt Hayes but no fit.

Turns out he is probably on Moraine A looking up at Hesperus. Scanning through, I had a single photo which showed up this angle.
It looks nothing like it from the plains or from the ridge top.
So yes - I guess a lot of people will have "looked" at this - but probably not many photos from there due to the extreme grind
I was very impressed with those rock towers when looking immediately down on them from the top though.

Looking NW at Mt Hayes from the walking track from 300m?

edit. The unnamed peak between Procyon and Hayes? (from looking NW at 300m)

I have decided I have no idea, and give up.

Maybe it would help if I put my image from Moraine A looking up to Hesperus (ringed) up

0283HesperusFromMoraineA.jpg

What do you think - looks pretty much it to me.
Pazzar's shot would have been from higher up the moraine than this one - but the various rock towers and striking white scree at the base are all there.
