Alternative track to The Labyrinth

Postby tasmaniac » Mon 05 Apr, 2010 9:36 am

We're heading to The Labyrinth in a couple of weeks and I'm interested in going in along Cephissus Creek and would like to find out a bit about it. I'm wondering if there is a clear pad all the way or if there is a bit of bush bashing involved. Is it obvious where you leave the creek and climb up to the Pool of Memories? How easy is that climb, any bush bashing involved? Any other relevant info would be greatly appreciated.

The rough track up from the top valley was closed several years ago, in preference to maintaining the one track up from Pine Valley hut. Unless you know what you're doing, have good navigational skills then I wouldn't bother.

Last I heard it was pretty difficult, no pad or track.
When looking down from near the Pool of Memories it certainly doesn't look very inviting.

Went down from there many years ago. Can't remember if I was on a track or not. I do remember it was very steep, fair amount of scrub (fagus), the odd small cliff. I wouldn't try it again.

Thanks for the tips guys. From what I gather it doesn't sound like a more enjoyable alternative. I will give this one a miss.

Is this what Parks call the 'northern cross track to Pine alley'? I saw it listed in their track strategy guide, but Geryon campsite track was there too. Interesting...
