Overland track in mid May

We are thinking about booking a trip in mid May and just wondering if its a reasonable time to tackle the track?

Appreciate any suggestions.

Park Service (or at least the bean wing) seem to think so.
It will be generally colder, the only other given is the shorter days. Still, pleanty long enough to complete each day's usual distance.
Traditionally May would be a lot quieter but I doubt that now.

No problem. There is really no reason not to start out. You could pick up the pass and start a day or two later as a strategy I suppose.
A set of ice cleats (eg. Kahtoola or Grivel) help a lot with confidence on icey bits if the forecast is looking icey.

BigBenny here, I found this thread. My friend and myself have just booked for Sat 22-May. It will be our first time doing the Overland Track. We will be flying into Launceston on Friday 21-May. Planning to reach Cynthia Bay on Friday 28-May, stay the night, and leave the next day, Sat 29-May back to Launceston to fly home.

I've contacted all of the coach companies, and most don't seem to have much availability in May, particularly on Saturdays.
How are you guys planning to get to Cradle Mountain and depart Lake St Clair?

Sorry i missed these posts. We ended up booking for the start of May. I think we'll be on the track from the 1st to the 10th most likely.

Thanks for the heads up re: transport. Wify managed to book seats on a bus there and back for us.

I have booked for May 14th 2024. I will book the bus from Launceston to Cradle Mtn. and Lake St. Claire to
Launceston closer to the date along with my flights to/ from Launceston- Melb..
I have never done this trek before.

I don't usually bother with correcting spelling errors but place names are a different matter, and the constant misspelling of that one is really getting up my nose. It was even refered to once in a magazine article as Lake Sinclair. How hard is it to look at an official map and write names as written there?
