Hi Camp Hut toilet - Mt Eliza

Postby Binder » Thu 27 May, 2010 10:12 am

G'day all

Just a heads up that the old High Camp Memorial Hut toilet (not the hut...) will be demolished today. The project involves pulling apart the old building, and flying it, the 2500 litre fibre glass tank under it and its well aged contents out for disposal.

A new 'sideshifter' building of similar size to the old one will be flown in, probably after winter. This unit has two fly out tanks, which will be flown out with the yearly Sputnik run in the Western Arthurs. This will be a step forward as no liquid waste will be going to ground with the new system. The current temporary sputnik will remain inplace until the new toilet comes on line.

Be aware that helicopter operations will be taking place in the area towards the end of next week, and signage will be in place which we ask folks to follow.

I can't promise that the new toilet will have the same sweeping views over Pedder, as the old one did, but I will see what I can do. I know people get attached to their remote loos....

Cheers

Thanks for the advice.

This was a loo with character. It vibrated like a rocket launching during the wind, and yes the view-from-the-loo was pretty good.

I was up this way n February and the current "out in the open" loo was getting a bit full.

It is going to be nice to have walls again!

Thanks for the tip Penguin, we will look at changing the Sputnik over while we are up there.

Oh, wonderful! I was afraid the Sputnik was going to be permanent, and it seems too many people didn't like the option (and the position) and just used the ground near the hut. It was a bit whiffy when I was last there.

I will miss the old one, though. Best bush dunny ever.

PLEASE dont let this be another version of the "Great-Mt-Anne-Toilet-View-Tragedy"!!!!
the view from the old can was one of the best character-features of the walk!
(i guess this makes me one of the remote loo freaks! ;-) )

G'day, all.

I've just returned from doing the Mount Anne Circuit after a break of almost 25 years (the last time I did the walk was in March 1992), and was saddened to discover the old loo's replacement doesn't have a similar view. The 'new' toilet is about 10 metres down the track from the hut, and the only view you'll get is of the trail heading back up, and then only if you leave the door ajar :(

All the best.
