A 4 to 5 walk?

Postby Tassie Surf » Thu 07 Oct, 2010 8:51 am

G'day all.

Im looking for a 4 to 5 day walk in the cradle mountain or walls of jerusalem area. i havent done much walking here in tasmania, but ive done a fair bit in western australia.

it would preferably be fairly easy, as its just myself and a friend. but off the beaten track.

we wanted to do the overland, but the crowds are cost are a major deterant. then i looked at the never never, but from the photos that i have seen it looks pretty intense. is this true?

im open to any suggestions, and advice.

thanks in advance

Maybe into Dixons Kingdom on the main track past Trappers Hut, camp at Dixons or continue on to Lake Ball and camp just kinda Northeast of the hut next to the lake (fantastic spot). Day 2 on to Lake Meston, camp at the north end (fantastic spot as well). Day 3 on to Junction Lake (if you're doing it easy maybe head up Mt. Rogoona on the way past). Day 4 out via Cloister Lagoon on the Moses Creek track (could head up to Lake Chalice and Cathedral Mountain for an extra night on the way past to make it 5 days). That would mean a small car shuffle however.

Mersey Forest Road-Lee's Paddocks-Pelion Hut-Scott Kilvert/Waterfall Valley-Cradle Mtn NP

3 nighter- but you could do side trips.

Yep 1:25,000 Tasmaps are best, 1:100,00 will do. The parks series of maps are also good and have a bit of interesting/useful info on the back. Chapman's book on the area is also a good resource, but the maps aren't for navigation.

I agree with sthughes - grab John Chapmans great guide of those areas for lots of ideas, track notes, maps etc.:
