TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

No, unfortunately, due to other pressures on the family budget, I don't think I'm going to be in the market to buy until late next year. :-(

The market may have changed by then, so I'll probably have to revisit the whole thing.

To be honest, I was not entirely happy with any of the selections available to me, and couldn't find any tents that fitted my criteria. The cheap $90 tent I bought in the late 80's actually fitted my criteria better than anything I can see on the market at present. It was a 2 man tent that weighed 1.9 kg, and cost $90, and lasted for over 10 years.

I know the feeling- nothing quite fits the bill. Makes me wish I knew how to sew!

I was probably leaning towards the Soulo, but it's heavier than I wanted. For much the same weight I could get a Nallo which is somewhat bigger (I don't particularly need free-standing - have never had it before, and never missed it).

However, both are heavier than I want. But the lighter tents don't look good for snow-loading, which is the only reason I sold my previous 1 person tent.

I just don't get why I could buy a 1.9kg 2 person tent in the 80's, but now I can't. What's the story with that?

Some obscure $90 tunnel tent I bought from Allgoods as a teenager. I can't remember the brand or model. I think it might have been "Practical Camper", but I'm really not sure. I'll have to scan some old photos.

Sorry to go off topic.... But with people mentioning the sticky fly on the hubba, mine has been on 3 overnight trips, and as soon as I get back home gets put out to dry, and then gets packed up and stored in the top of a wardrobe. On the last trip (so 2 nights use before this), I noticed that the fly was sticky.

My question is, Is there a way to make it unsticky again? :D

That is a bad sign. It means that your PU coating is perishing
You could try to contact MSR via the shop that sold you the tent but generally that is not covered by warranty.

From Sierra Design : (tent care)
hand wash your tent in a mild, non detergent soap and water solution. Down Soap works well. (pure soap is the same thing)

Next...
Prepare the following solution after washing the tent as previously instructed: 1 cup of salt, 1 cup lemon juice (concentrated) and 1 gallon hot water. Rub the solution into visible mildew. Set up the tent with the affected areas facing the sun. Allow to dry. Once dry, remove all peeling coating. Apply a coat of McNett Tent Sure to the areas where the coating has peeled. This will help restore water repellency. (For more information on McNett Mirazyme and McNett Tentsure visit http://www.mcnett.com)

So a lot of work but no sure outcome.

Tarp tent scarp 1 with crossing poles. That's the tent for me in this situation.
