Juju,

Now that is way too easy. I'll let someone else have a go at it.

Cheers,

Hi juju,

It has been a very long time since I have visited Bungonia Gorge, I think the Canyons name is the Bungonia Canyon or the Slot.

I have decided to get away from NSW, this one is in Queensland and I would like the name of the National Park that I am in when I took the photo.

Hi John,

No, further north, the features on the skyline are the key.

Hi John,

Not Blackdown Tableland, further north again, the park has a geological feature that is the longest of its type in the world.

Hi Eggs,

Not Lark Quarry Conservation Park?, a bit further north east toward Cairns, I hope to get to Lark Quarry Conservation Park one day soon.

Another clue, the little hills on the skyline are no longer active.

Hi Michael,

Yes you are correct, Undara Volcanic National Park it is, it was 10 years ago since my visit, I am a bit rusty on my exact location but I think you are right, the park was fairly new then and still needed some infrastructure.

We went to visit the lava tubes which are the longest in the world at around 160k, the tubes where formed around 190,000 years ago which is very recent in geological terms, a great and interesting place to visit, part of my work is looking at volcanic phenomenon and we have reproduce lava tubes in the lab.

Your turn Michael.

According to google maps, Hawke Head Drive passes through Box Head on its way to a park that has a foot track leading to the end tip to the south.
I was referring to the southerly most point of the pacific coastline bordering Broken Bay on the north.
You are looking at Barrenjoey with the cliffs near Palm Beach to the south visible on the left and the start of West Head on the right.

PS - the park appears to be Bouddi NP
PPS - Wildwalks pamphlet calls this point Box Head - Google maps shows that as the name for the area.

I know its not wise to trust google maps - but where are the online topographic maps for NSW like they have for Tas?
And why would someone name a road Hawke Head Drive if it doesn't go to Hawke Head? [must be a NSW thing?]

I don't have a photo handy until I get home a bit later and it looks like eggs had correctly identifed the actual spot ahead of me; just the nomenclature needed clarification (notwithstanding our strange ways of naming things ). I had unfair local advantage in that I already knew it was from the north side of Broken Bay but still took me a while to pinpoint where. So eggs you can go :).

eggs wrote:where are the online topographic maps for NSW like they have for Tas?

This might help for NSW http://six.maps.nsw.gov.au/terms/acceptTerms.html (yes you have to acknowledge the disclaimer to use it ). Not quite as good as Tasmania's The List, as the search features are limited, but is still useful.
