While we're at it, perhaps you NSW'ers can solve a mystery about Box Head for me?

New years day this year I was sailing on Pittwater and Broken Bay with family up there, and I observed a large white monstrosity built onto the hill - seemed to be above Box Head. Anyone know what it is? It seemed to be way too large for a residence.

I am not sure about an unfair advantage.
I could see it was Barrenjoey almost straight away.
My problem was finding the name info - so thankyou for that link - since well over 50 % entries are from NSW so far.

This is in NT - name of park or its key feature:

Looks a bit like Kings Canyon, but not the Garden of Eden section - Watarrka NP

That will do.
It is on the rim walk around Kings Canyon - this striking cliff face is not the main canyon but on the eastern part of the return loop.

Re Kings Canyon - I recall landing in a chopper at the top of the Garden of Eden, watching all those down below tramping up the canyon. Unpacked the cold chicken and salad and refreshing beverages and then flew away again. It was late January so rather warm. I felt sorry for the poor souls below.

Easy if you know it! Took me some inventive googling. Rosette Rock in Organ Pipes National Park NW of Melbourne? Looks interesting.

Certainly is!

The park had been closed for a while due to flooding and this was taken the first weekend it was open again - only a few weeks ago. A storm broke shortly after this shot so I departed again quickly.

Noting eggs' earlier observation about the number of NSW photos, here's one from QLD to help even the spread. What is the name of the feature that dominates this view? Bonus points for the location where I took the photo and name of the national park. Should be easy I think.

I am going to have a wild guess, could it be Mt. Bartle Frere, Wooroonooran National Park, Miriwinni, North Queensland .

Are you looking at Mt Mitchell in the Main Range NP from somewhere near Mt Cordeaux ?

Bartle Frere is dense tropical forest and very high
This has the look of the Scenic Rim about it.
Is it Mt Mitchell from Mt Cordeaux - I think Cunninghams Gap runs in between them?

Both correct answers with Mt Mitchell from Mt Cordeaux, Main Range NP near Boonah in SE QLD. We started the walk from Cunninghams Gap (correct eggs, it separates them) and this was en route to another destination. Isoma was the first correct answer...

Yes eggs - permit required. It wouldn't be a run up either. I believe it's quite a challenging climb.
After recently seeing 127 this photo reminded me of a similar story on an attempted climb of this peak.

I think I've read the story. Mt Bowen?

yes johnw - the majestic Mt Bowen on Hinchinbrook Is it is. You can see the feature known as the Thumb and if the resolution was better you would be able to see the Prophet off to its side.
I think I saw the story on one of those survival shows - might google to remind myself.

Google Warren Mcdonald. He became a double amputee after having his legs pinned under a rock slab for several days on Mt Bowen. I read his book several years ago.

Another easy one from QLD. To make it a bit harder I need the name the the mountain in the background.
Bonus points for naming the dam and NP.

Hi Lizzy,
Not Somerset dam, but the name of the dam/lake is just for bonus points. I need the name of the mountain behind it. You're too far north.

Yes I'll pay that. It is Mt Edwards behind Moogerah Dam in Moogerah Peaks NP. We climbed the steep-ish Mt Edwards, which is quite a rewarding short walk to the top and some expansive views. Your turn Lizzy...
