Mount Housetop

Yesterday I went on a short walk to test out whether the leg I injured recently is okay now. I wandered along a short 60-90 minute return track to the top of Mount Housetop. I'd seen the mountain on my maps before but never thought there'd be a track up there because of it's remoteness.

The track is a well-taped scrub-bash up to a rocky crag in the N/W of the state near Natone. It's in a forestry area and I wonder if maybe Forestry are responsible for taping the track. Anyway, it's a long drive on a crummy road for a very short walk, but yesterday the view was more than worth it. Check out the panorama here.

I found out about the track through Geocaching, you'd need GPS coords and some solid directions to find the start of the trail which I wont bother with now. I thought it worth mentioning though.

Speculator, nice report on this track. I have been wondering for a while how to get to Mt. Housetop. Looks like a perfect walk for a fine day in Spring. Does the Forestry Rd. have a name?

Just an update on directions etc...as per Geocache notes.

"Travel south on Blythe road past Upper Natone Reserve turning east at S41 18.620 E145 50.878 into Black Creek Road(sign

posted), continue to S41 18.262 E145 53.719 where pink tape and a cairn of rocks marks the track start.

As of 2/1/2013 ......Track is well marked with predominantly pink tape and with some yellow and orange tape as well. The track has been cleared and cleaned off (yours truly)...so is in best shape for some time.

The road in is quite rough in places, so make sure you have a good spare wheel and drive slowly as motorbikes etc frequent the area."

As of today the track has been chainsawed with all logs removed, which is in addition to the track work back in January.

The track is now in tip top condition with definitely no scrub bashing required and well marked.

A great short winter walk.

Looks like its a common occurence.
This is yours truly clearing the road in September 2012.
Was head high when I started.
The track itself in September was as greasy as a butchers ........

From my visit to Housetop.... I have tougher tyres now!

I'd rather get rid of timber anyday than fix that .....

Hi Davo1, can still see the remnants of your hard work, but the road is in a pretty clean state now but very rough in a couple of spots. 2wd no worries...just need to take it very easy on the rough stuff.
