Hilleberg Tents [Many photos]

I've been asked if I could post some images of my Hilleberg Nammatj 2 GT tent.

I've now owned this tent 2 to 3 months, so far I been to Fraser Island Great Walk, Royal National Park Coastal Walk and the Blue Mountains. I've been on other camps, but those listed above are the most exciting so far. Plan to add Tasmania to that list, including the Overland Track and around Hobart. I'm off to do the Great Walk at Fraser Island again in 4 weeks, Also planning on part of the Great Walks at the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast Hinterland in the next month.

They are a nice looking tent, but they do look a bit fiddly. How long does it take to set up, and how much do they weigh??

Don't take long to put up, Very quick to erect. All you do is peg out one end with two pegs, than insert the 3 poles into the sleeves and peg out the other end with two more pegs, Takes a few minutes, and if you wish than peg out the additional guys. Otherwise the tent only needs 4 pegs to erect. My tent weighs 3.5kg according to Hilleberg's website, but I've lightened it a bit, by not carrying all the pegs supplied with the tent and changing to Titanium Pegs, they where on special at the time, not sure how much weight I have saved, but the pegs do feel a lot lighter than all the pegs supplied with the tent.

And they are a 3 person tent?
Not that im looking for one, im just curious. 3.5kg is too heavy for me to consider anyway.

Some no doub't would say this is to much weight to carry for a tent. I don't think it is, I've managed just fine so far carrying this tent and I've completed some long distance walks. In fact it's lighter than my old backpacking tent.

No this is a 2 man tent.

It's a bomb proof tent, This thing will withstand Mt Everest so I been told.

Im quite sure it would. I have a Hilleberg and I love it. They are bomb proof no doubt!
3.5 kg is quite heavy for a 2 person tent though. I also have a Minaret which im quite confident would be fine on Everest also, and it's over 1kg lighter. also a 2 person tent

A friend of mine that joined me on the Fraser Island walk, used a Minaret, I don't know, if it was because it was not erected properly, but he had condensation inside his tent and woke up a bit wet, I did think his tent looked a bit loose, I think it needed tightening out a lot. These Nylon tents need to pitched taut. I'm sure if he had of pitched his tent taut he would not have suffered so much condensation.

So far, I've had no problems with condensation inside the inner tent, I say inner tent, because on the night at North Era Camp there was condensation inside the outer tent, but the inner tent was totally dry, it kept the water out. My nephew was inside the Outer tent, after I removed the inner tent and I shook the tent a bit to get rid of the excess water, not realising he was inside and had a bit of a shower.

I should mention we was the only ones that woke up dry that morning off the campers at North Era. I wet stormy night. Woke up early hearing the complaints from those nearby how wet and cold they where, I kind of felt great at that moment laying down nice and warm and dry hearing all the moaning and groaning outside. I shouldn't laugh it's happened to me in the past, I know how they felt, Hopefully will not happen again.

I've recently have spoken to Petra Hilleberg, some advice she's given to me is since the tents are made in nylon there is some stretching of the fabric when wet. This is one of the reasons to why they have adjustable peg
attachments - it is easy to tighten it a bit.
Always pitch the tents completely taut. You don't want to have any
sagging when you first set it up. Also always set your peg-attachment on its
longest setting when you first set it up so that you can tighten it if
needed.

Makes me want to put up my New Nallo 2 and sleep in it for the night. The way it is pinched in the photos is the winner. It took me a while to realise that you put the guy ropes out diagonally. That make all the difference. Great tents. Great review

This is the best tent I've ever seen for my needs. I have looked throughout the world at tent offerings in search of an ideal shelter.
Here are the attributes I've come to greatly appreciate.

1) Very strong design. Utilizing Kerlon 1800 material and 3 10mm poles of equal length.
2) Easy to erect It can be staked out with only 4 pegs (for really bad weather peg out the guy lines)
3) The entire tent goes up together. This keeps the inner tent dry even if erected or taken down in a downpour.
4) Long two-person inner tent body with one door and a rear window to help minimize condensation.
5) Fully adjustable venting through the tent body. Using no-seeum mesh/cloth panels.
6) Plenty of storage area. One big vestibule.
7) Large Venting on both ends of the tent body and rainfly, even in the rain!
The entrance on the GT’s extended vestibule boasts a full no-see-um mesh door (which can be zipped off completely), and a multi-slider zipper door that can be opened from the top, side, or bottom
9) Incredible attention to detail and handmade by one person in Europe.

Hilleberg also prides itself on details, tent includes a small tag with the individual tentmaker's name.

It's just a heavy duty version of the Nallo, and Nallos are quicker and easier to pitch than Aktos. If I wasn't wanting a lighter tent for the longer, harder walks (like the WArthurs), I'd not bother with anything else. I love my Nallo.
Heaps better than that Terra Nova rubbish.

I knew you had the Nallo4 but forgot it was the GT (vestibule +++). Must get a look at it sometime!

Drifting how do you find the nallo 4GT for space. Good for 4 or a squeeze. I'm thinking down the track this might be the family adventure tent (this is definitely a while off though Also how do you find it size wise for finding a suitable place to pitch such a beastie.

No, they're quick, easy and reliable. I still don't understand why Hilleberg don't make a smaller one-man version instead of messing around with something as fiddly to pitch as the Akto.

What about the Soulo? It's a one men tent and from what I can see on Youtube easy and quick to erect, although it's 2kg.

I think that a "solo" version of the Nallo would be only 200g or so lighter .
The main problem would be the tight pole radius required to even achieve that weight saving.
A way out is to use a Gothic Arch as done by Lightwave with their T0 /T10 solo shelters.

Yeh sadly I agree as they are an awesome tent. Stu has one and it is fantastic!! At only 300g lighter than my minaret though it just didnt seem logical for my needs.

Yep. I really thought hard about the Soulo. I actually prefer dome tents to tunnels, 'cause they feel like they have more usable space for the same floor area. But I just couldn't justify the relative weight.
