Penguin - Cradle track "PCT"

Wed 01 Jun, 2011 4:50 pm

this is just a thread i would like to start as i have seen many tourists / walkers get into a bit of strife on this track.
This may be in part due to the dynamic and changing conditions of this track, and also in part due to lack of planning / or just not ready for what this track is when compared to other popular tracks (such as the overland track "OLT") that are kept in better condition.

Please post info here so folks can be better prepared and enjoy this georgeous area and bush with the respect it deserves.

when i have more time (unless someone else beats me to it) I will post some links here to the lost / rescued hiker topics that relate to this track. :) Liam

A rope! There was no rope when we did it a month or so ago! Unless that was where we did one of our accidental extremely steep off track jaunts.

I also love that tree in your second photo - it was mega slippery in the rain when we did it, we ended up piking out and wriggling under it with packs of.

Great scenery.

We did this walk from Penguin to Loongana in Feb. and found it tough going. The rope was definately present in Feb. although the chain that was supposed to be on the other side of Griffiths Ridge was missing as were the fire hose and some of the rope creek crossings. The time needed was underestimated although had I been fitter (and less scared) we may have been faster. A beautiful part of the world though.
