argh! I've been usurped! :-)

This did make me laugh though... especially when I found the current result was a dead heat.

I think you'll find I did my poll first :p

And yeh.. it's tight.

another point that might or might not be worth making.... along the lines of Tassie comp getting more votes, how many of each calenders have been sold?? Is it about the same for both?? Or is one more popular than the other???

One is much more popular than the other. But I'm not going to say which. Just because its fun not to.

Actually, there's only one way to settle this. We should have a poll on which is the best poll.

Can we know the state of origin of the poll entrants at the conclusion? And when does it end?

There should be an end date listed at the top of the poll. Being that there isn't one, I'm guessing this is an open-ended poll.

To determine that state of origin of the people that chose each option is possible, but would require a really horrible SQL statement to interrogate the database.

It ends when there are a total of 53 votes.
That is the number of votes in the last Tas competition.
But maybe there a lot of Tas folk who have no interest in Aus - in which case it will be at 49 - the number who voted in the Aus competition

That is an easy question.

To be a member you find the site and sign up - you may only visit once or twice.
Source population for Aus = 22.3 Million
Source Population for Tas = 500 thousand

Likelihood that Tassie members as a percentage are more active than non-Tas
- given it was a purely Tas site to start, and given Tas is a bushwalkers paradise - extremely high.

I find the membership stats interesting, but unenlightening as regards the photo comp.
After all - over 3000 'members' but the best we get are 49/53 votes.
Now - count how many different people are actually discussing this issue....

I suspect that very few of those who take the time to vote actually have any real interest in this issue at all.
They just find a nice photo competition and vote. It would be nice to see if I am wrong though.

PS - 15 votes after less than a day is very good though..

PPS - 16 now, but it is interesting that we have 8 votes for the status quo here, but only 1 vote for the status quo on the official poll...

Yes lots of it!! Down to 300-400m over the weekend. Hanging around for about a week on and off I believe. We've had several days in the mid 20's down here in the last month already though, it's been awesome!

why do we want to change the photo comp? (I'm leaving for the ferry in 25 minutes, and if I hear something persuasive in that time, I'll cast the tie breaking vote! LOL)

Above anything else I'd like to see a 3rd category for macro etc because great photos(not mine) poll badly. ILUV is just afraid of change :P

Yeh thats not a bad idea, is there enough MACRO entries per month to warrant this though?? Or do you think ppl would make more of an effort if there was the option??

I guess im showing my age huh, I like things just the way they are.

Macro etc matey, 'artistic' is a nice, if slightly wanky definition, but it gives everyone a 2nd bite at the cherry and creates a bit of lateral thinking when out snapping away.

Yep, I can dig that idea.

A macro shot is unlikely to beat a mickeymoo shot, but if it was ALL macro, well yeh... i like the idea!!

I didn't take long to figure out that landscapes have a much better chance in the comp. Not sure why because there has been some great macros and I would certainly hope more would be entered if there was a non-landscape comp. I suspect there are lots of macros/"artistic" photos that don't get entered. I don't take many macros myself but only because I suck at it. A comp would be an incentive to more targeted practice :)
