Cedar Brush track head to Basin Campsite

This section of the Great North Walk starts from the Cedar Brush track head and winds up into the Olney State Forest, following bushtracks and service trails down into the Wollombi Brook gully. From here, the walk heads south along the Lyre Bird trail to the Basin Campsite. The Basin Campsite provides more than enough space for large groups to camp, as well as a picnic shelter, fire place and a toilet. It is a fair drive around for the car shuffle, but a nice walk into the campsite. Let us begin by acknowledging the Awabakal people, Traditional Custodians of the land on which we travel today, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Getting started
From the signposted 'Cedar Brush Creek Trackhead' (on Brush Creek Road), this walk crosses the stile and follows the track gently downhill, while following the 'Newcastle' sign. The walk continues for about 220m then crosses a timber and metal bridge. On the other side of the bridge, the walk heads gently uphill, past the 'Please keep on track' sign, then about 100m later this walk comes to 'The Great North Walk Walkers Register' book on a post - a good place to note your intentions. Now in a denser forest, the track begins to wind moderately steeply uphill (crossing over two moist gullies) for about 1.5km until coming to a three-way intersection with Kingtree Ridge Road.....

	After another 1.6 km turn right. After another 210 m find the "Walkers Rest Area" (15 m on your left). There is no water is available. After another 6 m come to the camp site (70 m on your left).
	After another 430 m continue straight.
	After another 2.9 km continue straight, to head along Walkers Ridge Road. After another 35 m continue straight.
	After another 125 m continue straight, to head along Bobs Point Road.
	After another 180 m turn right, to head along Walkers Ridge Road.
	After another 25 m turn sharp left.
	After another 380 m turn left, to head along Cedar Brush Walk.
	After another 650 m turn left.
	After another 1.6 km continue straight. After another 270 m cross the bridge
	After another 60 m come to the end. About 15 m past the end is a picnic table. About 10 m past the end is a car park. About 25 m past the end is "Basin Campsite". Basin Campsite This large campsite sits by Wollombi Brook on the Great North Walk and is accessible by car. The campsite provides a range of facilities such as a pit toilet, picnic tables and chairs, wood BBQs and fireplaces. Water is usually available from the water tank or the nearby creek - treat before use. About 40 m past the end is a toilet.
