Mathias Track

Starting from the intersection of Falls Road and Mathias Road, Mount Dandenong, this walk takes you to Silvan Road and back via the Mathias Road track, visiting Red Dog Hut along the way. One of the few tracks that allow dogs in the Dandenong Ranges, this track is quite popular and offers a peaceful experience with heaps of shade and lovely views. There are heaps of birdlife here, including but not limited to fairywrens, kookaburras, eastern yellow robins and rosellas. This is a wide, well-maintained track shared between walkers, trail runners, mtb and horse riders. It can get quite busy, so coming early and on weekdays is recommended. Let us begin by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we travel today, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Getting started
From Falls Road (just south of the intersection with Dingley Lane), head towards the metal gate with a red "Emergency Access - Keep Clear At All Times" sign on it along the paved path. Head around the gate and along the singular dirt track to continue along the Mathias Road Track.....

After another 55 m (at the intersection of Mathias Road & Predator Track) continue straight, to head along Mathias Road. After another 410 m pass the toilet (75 m on your right). 	After another 50 m (at the intersection of Mathias Road & Golf Course Track) veer right, to head along Mathias Road.
	After another 290 m (at the intersection of Mathias Road & Cornus Track) continue straight, to head along Mathias Road. After another 145 m (at the intersection of Mathias Road & Yallambee Way) continue straight, to head along Mathias Road. After another 590 m (at the intersection of Mathias Road & Fraxinus Track) continue straight, to head along Mathias Road.
	After another 125 m (at the intersection of Mathias Road & Simmons Avenue) turn left, to head along Mathias Road. After another 45 m (at the intersection of Mathias Road & Sequoia Track) continue straight, to head along Mathias Road. After another 100 m pass the "Red Dog Hut" (10 m on your right). After another 45 m continue straight, to head along Mathias Road. After another 40 m (at the intersection of Mathias Road & Poplar Track) continue straight, to head along Mathias Road.
	After another 320 m continue straight, to head along Mathias Road. After another 325 m (at the intersection of Mathias Road & Poplar Track) continue straight, to head along Mathias Road. After another 25 m head through/around the gate.
	(at the intersection of Silvan Road & Mathias Road) Turn around here and retrace the main route for 3.6 km to get back to the start.
