Point Lookout Walking Track

Starting from the car park at the end of Point Lookout Road, Ebor, this walk takes you on a circuit around Point Lookout via the Point Lookout Walking Track. This short and easy walk winds its way around Point Lookout, located about 1500m above sea level on the edge of the Great Escarpment in New England National Park, offering panoramic views across the park's World Heritage-listed wilderness and beyond to the ocean. The surrounding bushland is dominated by snow gums, and during late spring and early summer, the bright red flowers of the flame trees can be spotted in the rainforest valleys below. The area is also home to diverse birdlife and wildlife, including superb lyrebirds, reptiles, wallabies and a wide variety of parrots. At both lookouts, visitors are rewarded with spectacular views across the Gondwana rainforest, and on a clear day, towards the Pacific Ocean on the Coffs Coast. The initial section of the loop, leading to the first lookout, is wheelchair accessible. There are toilets, picnic tables and a large picnic shelter near the car park. This loop consists of wide and narrow, mostly flat walking trails, with sealed surfaces and uneven natural surfaces, suitable for all ages and fitness levels, as well as prams and wheelchairs. Let us begin by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we travel today, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Getting started
From the car park at the end of Point Lookout Road, Ebor, head along the walking trail to the left of the large picnic shelter with a green 'Point Lookout' sign, just before the toilets. Follow the walking trail ahead and continue the Point Lookout Walking Track (clockwise).....

	From the Point Lookout Circuit turn right, to head along Point Lookout Circuit. After another 110 m pass the "Point Lookout" (5 m on your right).
	After another 75 m (at the intersection of Point Lookout Circuit & Eagles Nest Track) continue straight, to head along Point Lookout Circuit.
	After another 45 m (from the Point Lookout Circuit) continue straight, to head along Point Lookout Circuit. After another 30 m come to the "Second Lookout".
	After another 9 m (from the Point Lookout Circuit) veer left, to head along Point Lookout Circuit.
	After another 75 m come to the "Point Lookout".
	After another 125 m (at the intersection of Point Lookout Road & Point Lookout Circuit) turn left, to head along Point Lookout Road (a highway\|tertiary). Continue another 25 m to find at the intersection of Point Lookout Road & Point Lookout Circuit at the end.

  Other planned events: Notice of ongoing 1080 program
  NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting ongoing aerial and ground baiting programs. Aerial baiting and ground baiting is scheduled from 8th June 2025 to 8th December 2025. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of Wild dogs and Foxes.
  Aerial baiting and ground baiting will occur in:
  Richmond River Area – Captains Creek NR, Richmond Range NP, Bundjalung NP
  Clarence Area - Nymboi-Binderay National Park (NP), Nymboida NP, Mount Neville Nature Reserve (NR), Banyabba NR and State Conservation Area (SCA), Ramornie NP, Bundjalung NP

  The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
  Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

  Closed areas: Closed roads due to Ex-tropical cyclone Alfred in New England National Park
  Closed roads in New England National Park until 31 August due to Ex-tropical cyclone Alfred. Road blocks have been installed on the Horseshoe road to prevent vehicle movements at the Killikrankie Mountain Lookout intersection in the north and at Kilprotay road Intersection to the south. In addition, Kilprotay road has developed a natural road blockage about 3.5 km from the intersection with the Horseshoe road.
  Two significant events have been identified, affecting the roading network in New England National Park:
  
  Horseshoe road – culvert blow out and undermining of road, no through access
  
  Kilprotay road – major landslip (~3.5km from the top intersection with the Horseshoe road), no through access
  
  Gaddes Ridge road - major landslip, no through access
  
  These closures will remain in place until geohazard assessments can be undertaken and works completed. Penalties apply for non-compliance.
