Safer Bushwalks Tips on staying safe on track
Before you start any bushwalk ensure you;
• Tell someone you trust where you are going and what to do if you are overdue
• Have adequate equipment, supplies, skills & knowledge for the whole journey
• Consider the impact of weather forecasts, park/track closures & fire dangers
• Can respond to emergencies & call for help at any point
• Are healthy and fit enough for this journey
If not, change plans and stay safe. It is okay to delay and ask people for help.

	Start (from Fitzroy Falls Visitors Centre sign post, Fitzroy Falls) by heading south-east. You will also find a shelter, café, seatand a toilet here. There is a shelter is at the start. After another 15m, pass a shelter (20m on the left). After another 40m, pass a café (5m on your right). After another 20m, pass a seat (on your right).
	Then (at the 3-way intersection) bear right. Then almost immediately, pass a toilet (10m on the left). Then almost immediately, pass a seat (on your right).
	After another 60m, (at the 3-way intersection, with & East Rim Wildflower Track) turn left, to follow the East Rim Wildflower Track. Then almost immediately, cross the wooden bridge, over the Wildes Meadow Creek.
	Then (at the 3-way intersection) continue straight, to stay on the East Rim Wildflower Track. After another 60m, cross the wooden bridge. After another 50m, cross the wooden bridge. After another 20m, pass Fitzroy Falls waterfall, a waterfall (40m on your right). Then almost immediately pass a lookout (on your right). After another 10m you will find the The Honey Flower sign (on your right). After another 150m you will find the May Lookout (20m on your right).
	The starting point of an optional sidetrip. Side trip to May Lookout with views. To start this optional side trip turn right here. When you have finished this side trip, head back to the main route and continue straight to continue. Details below. Then (at the 3-way intersection) turn left, to stay on the East Rim Wildflower Track. After another 250m, cross the bridge. After another 30m, cross the wooden bridge. After another 100m, cross the bridge.
	After another 350m, (at the 3-way intersection, with East Rim Wildflower Track & East Rim Track) bear left, to follow the East Rim Track. Then almost immediately you will find the Warrawong Lookout (10m on your right). After another 1.1km you will find the Lamond Lookout (15m ahead). After another 300m you will find the Valley View Lookout (on your right). After another 350m you will find the Yarrunga Lookout (10m on the left).
	After another 30m you will be at the turn-around point (to return to the start) at Yarrunga Lookout, Fitzroy Falls. There is a lookout here.

  Closed areas: Erith Coal Mine Walking Track and Waterfall Closed
  Erith Coal Mine walking track is closed due to dangerous high water levels at Erith Creek Crossing.
  
  Closed areas: East Rim Wildflower walk closed
  East Rim Wildflower Walking Track closed due to high water levels.
  
  Closed areas: Parts of Morton National Park closed due to severe weather conditions
  Parts of Morton National Park will be closed from 8:00am Tuesday 1 July to 12:00pm Thursday 3 July 2025, due to forecast severe weather conditions. High rainfall and strong winds may lead to flash flooding and conditions that are hazardous for visitors in these areas.
  The closed areas are:
  - Lake Yarrunga campgrounds: Shoalhaven River Arm
  - Lake Yarrunga campgrounds: Kangaroo River Arm
  - Griffins Farm campground
  - Gales Flat campground
  - Griffins Farm fire trail/walking track
  
  This alert may be extended if hazardous conditions continue beyond the planned re-opening time.
  Note that Bendeela and Tallowa Dam Recreation Areas, managed by WaterNSW, will also be closed during this time.

  Other planned events: Notice of 1080 ground baiting program
  A baiting program using ground baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes will be conducted between August 01 2024 to August 01 2025 in the Kangaroo Valley, Budgong and Illaroo areas.
  All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.
  Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs. Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

  Closed areas: Castle walking track and campground
  The access from Morton National Park to Castle walking track and campground in the Budawang Wilderness Area is closed from Monday 23 June 2025 until Tuesday 30 December 2025 due to track maintenance. This closure may be extended or removed.

  Closed areas: Byangee Wall Walking Track Closed
  Byangee Walls Walking Track in Morton National Park is closed due to Capital repairs and maintenance.
  
  Closed areas: Nicholas Pass track partly closed
  Nicholas Pass track is closed from its junction with the base of Fairy Bower Falls walking track to Ampitheatre Lookout until further notice due to a landslide and rock fall event.

  Other planned events: Notice of 1080 bait disposal pit
  NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is disposing of used 1080 baits and baiting products in an approved disposal pit on NPWS National Parks land within the Fitzroy Falls area.
  The burial of used baits and products will occur from Thursday 12 December 2024 to Friday 8 August 2025. All bait material in the pit will be buried under at least 500mm of soil, and clear of waterways so as not to cause pollution of waterways. This is in accordance with the current Pesticide Control Order (1080 bait products).
  There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to the disposal pit site.
  1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) is lethal to pets (including domestic dogs and cats) and working dogs. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance. Domestic pets, including dogs and cats, are not permitted in national parks or reserves.

  Closed areas: Access to base of Belmore Falls prohibited
  All access to the base of Belmore Falls is permanently closed as there is a risk of falling from the cliff edge and severe injury or death. This includes access from Hindmarsh and Belmore Falls lookouts and picnic areas.
  Access is also closed to the top of Belmore Falls, including from the Belmore Falls Road causeway.
  There is limited mobile phone reception in this area. You may not be able to call for help if you need it and access for emergency services is difficult.
  The walk will remain permanently closed to the public to protect visitor safety.

  Closed areas: 12 Mile Road Closed
  12 Mile road between George Boyd Lookout and Braidwood Road in Morton National Park is closed due to recent storm damage. Culverts have been washed out and the road is untrafficable.

  Closed areas: Tianjara fire trail
  Tianjara fire trail is closed. Please do not enter the closed area.

  Other planned events: Notice of ongoing 1080 pest management program
  NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from 3rd March 2025 to 3rd September 2025. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of feral animals wild dogs and/or foxes.
  
  The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock and will take place in:
  
  Morton National Park (including: 12 Mile Road, Croobyar/Kingiman, Touga/Tolwong, Little Forest Plateau, Redground, Endrick and Sassafras)
  Conjola National Park
  Murramarang National Park
  Parma Nature Reserve
  Jerrawangala National Park
  Colymea SCA
  Bees Nest Nature Reserve
  
  Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands.

  Closed areas: Gulp Road at Wingello closed
  The Gulp Road section of Morton National Park is closed due to ongoing wet conditions, it will be re-opened after it has been assessed as suitable for vehicle access.
  
  Safety alerts: Potential difficulties for cyclists navigating Beehive Walking Track
  Cyclists undertaking the Fitzroy Falls to Kangaroo Valley cycling route are advised that there may be difficulties riding Beehive Walking Track, which provides one of two access routes to Beehive Campground. The original track has been closed to vehicles with many large logs impeding access. Alternative riding access to Beehive Campground is possible via Jack's Corner Road and Beehive Point Road.
  
  This closure only affects cyclists wishing to access Beehive Point Campground. Walkers are not impacted by this closure and cyclists may choose to walk the trail with their bikes, lifting them over logs when required.

  Closed areas: Camping areas closed due to flood and fire damage
  Camping is closed indefinitely at the following campgrounds due to fire damage and flooding. The closed campground include (open for day-use only):

  Please note that the campgrounds will remain open for day use. Some campgrounds may be affected by flood debris following heavy rain, and there may be steep sand walls to access sites.
  Please be cautious and move onto another campground if safety issues occur. There have been many changes to campgrounds along the river, including reduced campground capacity. Some sites also have extensive regrowth following fires.

  Mt Tarn Walking Track is overgrown with vegetation between Mt Tarn and Mt Haughton which may cause navigation challenges.
