Thanks for some replies and I'll look into these. I come over every 2 months or so for work and can usually get something like thursday after work to sunday to explore, so I like options for any time of the year. I really like the isolation, forest, rivers and quite like a strenuous climb. I always tent. I do quite like the idea of out and back, as usually I am rushing to catch a plane so I quite like being able to work out exactly how long I got to return, rather than trying to second guess the cicruit, and then inenvitably either rushing it and finishing early or worse, turning back for fear of missing the plane. I liked frenchmans cap, that was great. I would of loved to have time to do the circuit more and swam the river. Thats my idea of what I like. wet, dirty and a challenge. Mt anne circuit I found a bit barren. The climbing bits were ok. On this time though again, I was worried about missing my plane so turned back near the notch, and sort of done the circuit doing half from each end to make sure I knew exactly how long it would take to make it. As it turns out it meant doing the cicruit almost twice (except missing the best bits in the middle), so I really did mis judge that walk. So doing it properly is still an option.
I was wondering on whether you can fill 3 days of rambling around mount wellington. Or whether I would just come across too many roads and fire trails for my liking. I read a report about lake rhona on here. That sounds good.
