A SEARCH will resume this morning for a bushwalker missing on Tasmania’s West Coast.

Tasmania Police said the 68-year-old man from Bridgewater went missing near Newell Creek in the Mt Jukes Rd area of Queenstown about 5pm yesterday.

Search and Rescue officers, the Westpac Rescue helicopter and the State Emergency Service will be involved in the search.

A full-scale search is underway near Queenstown on Tasmania's West Coast for a missing bushwalker.

Police say the 68-year-old man from Bridgewater was walking in the area around Newall Creek when he became separated from his partner about 5:00pm.

She raised the alarm soon after.

A wilderness-trained paramedic onboard a rescue helicopter searched the area yesterday evening without success.

This morning, police and SES crews will focus on the area around Mount Jukes Road.

Police said the man was an experienced bushwalker.

Mt Jukes Road covers a multitude of sins. Hope they find him OK - that's not an easy area to search.

Newall Creek is the route that runs down to the King River from West Jukes. Some old 4wd tracks there.

Latest reports now state he was prospecting for gold and poorly dressed.

Police say the 67-year-old man from Bridgewater was fossicking for gold, near Queenstown on Tasmania's west coast, and went missing Tuesday evening.

His companion raised the alarm after they became separated near Newell Creek.

A search including a rescue helicopter, police and SES crews focused on the area around Mount Jukes Road.

Police Inspector Stuart Wilkinson said the man was not well-equipped for being in dense bushland.

"He was dressed in crocs — blue crocs — green shorts and a green long-sleeved polo top," he said.

"It's not ideal to be out in west coast conditions in that sort of clothing."

A PROSPECTOR from Bridgewater remains missing in thick bush on Tasmania’s West Coast but searchers have found a makeshift bed and a shoe they believe belong to him.

“Hopefully we will catch up with him shortly,” Inspector Stuart Wilkinson said from the command centre set up at the Queenstown Police Station today.

Siegmund Glowacki, 67, was reported missing by his colleague at 5.30pm yesterday.

The pair was panning for gold in the Newell River, just south of Queenstown.

A search started at 7pm and continued into the early hours of this morning.

The search resumed at 8.30am today and a makeshift bed and a shoe were found near the Garfield River, which is about 5km inland from where Mr Glowacki was last seen in the Mt Jukes area

Inspector Wilkinson said Mr Glowacki was not intending to stay out overnight and was wearing just shorts, a polo shirt and a pair of Crocs.

But conditions were mild overnight and the man was in good physical health and an experienced walker.

However, the thick bush and steep terrain were causing some communication issues between those on the ground and the command centre and would be difficult to traverse on foot.

More resources from Hobart and Launceston arrived today to bolster local search efforts.

“We will continue searching until we find him. Early indications are that he is alive and simply took a wrong turn and got lost,’ Inspector Wilkinson said.

There are about 20 personnel on the ground looking for Mr Glowacki as the Westpac Rescue helicopter searches overhead.

Tracking dogs were also being deployed at his last known location.

Mr Glowacki’s family members are being kept informed as the search continues.

A 67-year-old bushwalker who was missing for two nights in rugged bushland on Tasmania's west coast has been found alive.

Police said the rescue helicopter located 67-year-old Siegmund Glowacki early this afternoon.

Mr Glowacki was reported missing on Tuesday evening, after becoming separated from his friend as they were fossicking for gold near Newell Creek.

A shoe and a makeshift bed were found in the area yesterday.

He is currently being airlifted back to Queenstown, where he will be treated by paramedics.

'Weight off shoulders' for missing man's wife

Police said Mr Glowacki was mobile when located but details about his condition were not yet known.

He had been wearing just shorts and a T-shirt, and his wife of 16 years, Liz, said she was beginning to lose hope.

"But hey he's alive - we can do things with alive," she said.

"It's a weight off my shoulders enormously, I'm ever so grateful to all those people for putting in all that time and effort in really difficult conditions to find him."

Tracker dogs this morning joined 30 rescue personnel, as well as helicopters, in the search.

Mr Glowacki is being flown to Queenstown.
