Mount Rugby

Postby tomberli » Sun 13 Dec, 2009 6:51 pm

I have walked past it a few times and everytime I can't help thinking what a fantastic view it must be from the top. Has anyone been up Mount Rugby? What is the best way to access it (assuming one does not have a boat)?

Chapman gives a pretty good description of the route in his book Walking in SW Tas.
Nothing to see here.

If you have walked past it a few times, that would have to imply you have done the Port Davey track more than once, which means you MUST be a mud rat (doing it MORE than once) and as such do not deserve views from summits as beautiful!
OK, sorry, never been there but have seen photos from the top, a mate of mine who has a yacht.
Assuming one does not have a boat, do you have a helicopter? (Well, you did ask for the best way of accessing it......)
OK OK...
In all honesty, I dunno. I would have thought flying into Melaleuca and walking up would be the best way, followed by walking down by Scotts Peak.
Biggest problem about any further info on that is that if it isn't in a guide book somewhere, it's likely off-track so specific answers (containing precise detail) would need to come via PM.

And as I preview I see someone mentions Chapmans book. So public answers might be okay.
Am envious of anyone going there on a fine day tho.

Gosh I must be blind. I made sure to flip through Chappies book before posting here and couldn't find anything but upon re-checking, there is indeed a description ;-)

I've only walked the Port Davey once, don't worry. I was young and silly and needed the money
But I counted strolling along Bathurst Harbour as going past too! Not sure i'd push on all the way to Scotts peak simply becasue I've gone up Rugby. Then much rather turn around and poke around South West Cape or head out along the South Coast!

That explains it!

Sensibility reigns!

Must confess, haven't done it myself. Only been from Horseshoe Inlet to Melaleuca recently, and seen enough of the Port Davey track to know I have seen enough.
